Why We Made this Film

Every year, over 3 trillion pounds of food scraps are wasted. That waste is the third-largest source of methane, equivalent to 7% of the global GHG emissions. At the same time, 18 billion pounds of plastic pollute our oceans annually.

This is a dual crisis, and Genecis is killing two birds with one stone - by taking food waste and converting it into compostable and marine-biodegradable plastics that break down within 12 months.

Best of all, this could be a solution to the growing issue of microplastics that are finding their way into our water, food and even newborn babies. While we won’t solve our plastic addiction anytime soon, at the very least, Genecis might have a solution to produce it from better sources.
