AMP Robotics

Ep. 43 Robots Revolutionizing Recycling

The problem with how the world deals with waste is absolutely massive. Hundreds of millions of tons of potentially reclaimable material get landfilled or incinerated each year. Last year, AMP's AI-driven systems identified more than 67 billion objects, including more than 12.8 billion PET bottles—enough to wrap around Earth roughly 65 times.

Why We Made this Film

The problem with how the world deals with waste is absolutely massive. Hundreds of millions of tons of potentially reclaimable material get landfilled or incinerated each year. If the industry could take a large fraction of that material and have it reused or recycled, we would start to see a path to gigatons of emissions being avoided.

The gap, however, has been in the lack of computer vision available – the traditional sorting process is intensely manual. That’s why when we heard of AMP Robotics, we knew we’d stumbled across some special tech (and, really, what’s cooler than planet-saving robots?).

Since its inception, AMP’s technology has saved an estimated nearly five million tons of greenhouse gas emissions, an impact equivalent to removing more than one million cars from the roads. The startup is reimagining the world's recycling infrastructure, making the process a profitable business for people as well as the planet.
